Casey Thomas, who works as an applications developer for the Philadelphia Public Interest Information Network (new name on the way), attended his first Online News Association conference last week. Thomas is new to the news. He recently developed lobbying.ph, a tool that tracks lobbying activity in Philadelphia, and is working with several reporters on data visualization projects.
Check out his brief recap of the conference on his personal blog. “In short,” he Tweeted, “Inspiring, immersive, a little short on data journalism …”
Thomas was particularly fond, as was I, of the presentation from NPR’s David Wright, “Design is How It Works.” Says Casey, “To me, it was by far the most focused, engaging, and well executed talk at the conference.”
