Earlier this week, we posted a video report from a recent meeting between community leaders and local journalists at the Norris Square Civic Association. The event was intended to help journalists better understand the stories, key issues and best practices for reporting on Norris Square, North Philadelphia and Latino communities across the city.
Yesterday, we posted video covering the full duration of the meeting.
Today’s update includes in-depth responses from some of the interviews that followed the event, including:
- Temple University journalism student Shane Hoffman
- Norris Square resident and union carpenter Margarita Padin
- Philadelphia Daily News Editor Michael Days
- Norris Square resident and mural artist Betsy Casanas
The Center for Public Interest Journalism, with the help of local journalism associations, has convened this series of conversations on news coverage of diverse communities in Philadelphia, and hosted previous events at Mother Bethel A.M.E. Church and Asian Arts Initiative.
